A 54-year-old female jogger, who may have been trying to avoid a traffic accident scene near Wailupe Beach Park Friday morning, ended up being run over and killed while in a marked crosswalk on Kalanianaole Highway. Police Lt. Carlene Lau, traffic divisions spokeswoman, said the chain of events began at 5:45 a.m. at Waa Street and Kalanianole Highway. A Scion traveling east on Kalanianole Highway rear ended a parked car. Twenty minutes later the jogger seeing the accident decided to cross Kalanaianole Highway to avoid the two damaged vehicles, Lau said. The jogger, Cynthia Timtim Soneda, entered a marked crosswalk fronting 5005 Kalanianaole Hwy and was hit by a red Nissan Leaf, driven by a woman in her 30s, traveling in the HOV lane heading townbound. She fell and then was run over by a Chevy truck, Lau said. Emergency Medical Services said paramedics reported that Soneda died at 6:30 a.m. at the scene. This was Oahu's 29th traffic death, compared to 28 at the same time last year.
