A man in his 60s was killed Sunday night while jaywalking across Nimitz Highway near River Street. Police said the accident occurred 6:15 p.m. where Nimitz Highway crosses Nuuanu stream. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a 2004 silver Ford truck, which was heading west in the left lane of Nimitz Highway, driven by 47-year-old man. Speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, according to police. The injured man was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with internal injuries where he died. This was Oahu’s 44th traffic death, compared to 52 at the same time a year ago.
